Appomattox Cemetery
Article by: J. Posey Buckhall

The Appomattox cemetery is located within the Appomattox Court House National Historic Park administered by the U.S. National Park Service, at Appomattox, Virginia.

The men buried here were killed at the end of a long and brutal civil war, and were among the very last to fall.
May their sacrifice help us to prevent future wars through the loss of sweat & pride, not blood.

The grave of Private J. H. Hutchins,
Company A, 5th Alabama Infantry Battalion,

"...and he, like thousands of other brave Alabama boys, sleeps in Virginia soil,
there to await the resurrection morn."
